GLASS QUESTIONS, SIMPLE ANSWERS

What are we actually fixing?

The short answers to the questions we hear every day.

01 / TWO LAYERS

What is double-pane glass?

GLASSSPACEGLASS

Two pieces of glass sealed together, with a space in the middle. If you see fog between them, the seal has likely failed.

02 / THE REPAIR

Can you fix just one side?

The two panes form one sealed unit, so we replace them together. We keep your existing frame if it’s in good condition. If the surrounding wood frame has significant rot or the vinyl frame is too damaged to reuse, we recommend replacing the entire window.

03 / SAFETY GLASS

What is tempered glass?

Glass specially treated so, if it breaks, it breaks into small pieces. Some windows and doors need it for safety. We check before ordering.

THE COMPLETE GLASS REPLACEMENT

You spent thousands making your home look good.
Don’t let foggy or broken glass ruin the view.

A foggy double-pane window is usually one sealed glass unit, not a single loose pane. If your existing frame is sound, we can replace that custom-sized unit and leave the frame in place.

SINGLE-PANE GLASS · WHEN APPLICABLE$120–$150 installed

Prices are per unit. Glass type, size, safety glass, grids, specialty glass or frame repairs may change the quote.

HOW WE COUNT GLASS

What counts as one unit?

One separate glass assembly that we replace counts as one unit. A typical single-hung window has a fixed upper glass section and a lower sash that opens: replacing the glass in one section is one unit; replacing both sections is two units. Each sealed double-pane assembly has two sheets of glass, but it still counts as just one unit.

MORE THAN NEW GLASS

Feel better about the windows you look through every day.

  • Bring back the view. Clear away the foggy appearance and restore the look of your home.
  • Take care of visible issues. Fogged or broken glass can stand out to buyers and during a home inspection.
  • Keep your home comfortable. A properly sealed insulated unit helps limit heat transfer. Low-E adds a nearly invisible coating that can further improve energy performance, depending on the glass selected.
  • Built for years of use. The glass is custom-made for your window; the one-year warranty covers our workmanship, not a guaranteed lifespan for the unit.
GLASS OR THE WHOLE WINDOW?

The right repair depends on what needs replacing.

We do both. After checking the glass, sash and frame, we explain the options and quote the work that fits your window.

KEEP THE SOUND FRAME

Replace the glass

For foggy or broken double-pane glass when the existing sash and frame can stay. We measure and install a new sealed glass unit in that window.

GRIDS / MUNTINS

Why do we sometimes remove one side?

Some windows have decorative grids or muntins that must be carefully moved to access the glazing bead or glass stop. When needed, our technician temporarily removes one side so we can expose the edge of the glass and confirm the actual glass size before building or ordering the replacement.

When the existing grid assembly can be reused, we protect it and reinstall it with the replacement glass to preserve the original appearance.

Why this mattersThe visible glass does not always show the full glass size hidden inside the frame. Accessing the glass edge helps us verify the replacement accurately.
